President Trump Renames Lake Ontario to Lake America

The White House put on X today that President Trump renamed Lake Ontario, a lake located on the border of the US and Canada, to Lake America. This comes after turbulent trade talks between the two countries.

He’s used this tactic before when he had issues with Mexico. Trump signed an executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America on January 20, 2025, his first day back in office. The US government recognizes the Gulf of America and now Lake America, but other countries generally do not. Depending on who wins the next Presidential election, we may see all this reverted anyway.

Do you think the changes are a political tactic or childish?
