Partisan SCOTUS - WHY?
SCOTUS should not be influenced by political parties!

When a Supreme Court spot opens up, everyone knows about it. Both political parties are praying that their President is in office when it does. Ruth Bader Ginsburg for example… in 2020, she passed away 46 days before the Presidential election. The President will nominate someone and the opposing party attempts to block it. People freak out online about the candidates. They dig up any piece of information they can to smear them, while the other side defends the person at any cost.
Why are we so concerned about which judges end up in the seat?
The definition of a judge is “a court officer who manages trials, interprets laws, rules on evidence, and decides legal outcomes or sentences.” (a definition that covers a wide range of different types of judges, I know). The word interprets is extremely important here. Which branch of government does the Supreme Court belong to? The judicial branch.
The judicial branch’s role is as follows:
-They interpret (there goes that word again) laws passed by Congress and signed by the President.
-They apply laws to specific legal cases.
-They decide if laws or government actions violate the U.S. Constitution through a power called judicial review.
It is not SCOTUS’s job to MAKE LAWS. If you are a good enough judge to be nominated and confirmed for the Supreme Court of the United States, you should NEVER let your own politics interfere with your judgments.
For example, let’s say the law of the land is that every person in the US has to buy only a blue car, no other colors. Someone buys a teal car. Said person is arrested and the case ends up in front of SCOTUS. Their job is to uphold the law. Judge number 1 thinks the law is ridiculous and hates blue, so they vote in favor of the defendant because “it’s mostly blue” or “you can argue it’s blue.” NO. TEAL CONTAINS GREEN. It doesn’t matter if you are a Republican or Democrat or anything in between. Congress writes/passes our laws. If you want something changed, do not expect a judge on the Supreme Court to rule in your favor because of their politics.
“But we care about the politics because the issue is interpretation!” If they are allowing their judgment to be that clouded that they can’t interpret the English language in a neutral and unbiased manner, bye! You are still inflicting your politics on us by injecting your political affiliation. If they were all being 100% honest with themselves when looking at controversial cases, they would not always land where their political party wants them to.
You may say, “it still matters, they use their bias anyway.”
I don’t give a damn! They are a shit judge and should be removed/impeached if they are doing that! All that should matter during appointment is that the person is qualified and has a track record of upholding the law of the land NO MATTER WHAT IT SAYS.
